About Rooofread
A Place to Figure It Out.
Rooofread is an independent Canadian publication about what housing is doing to adulthood.
The old order went something like school, job, apartment, partner, house, kids.
For a lot of people between 28 and 40, housing broke that order. You can have the education and the job and still be renting. You can be ready for kids and not ready for the rent that comes with them.
Every story here answers one of four questions:
- What does this mean for me now?
- What decision am I actually making?
- What changed compared with what I expected?
- What could this mean over the next few years?
How we work
- We start with primary sources: Statistics Canada, CMHC, provincial governments, regulators and local real estate boards. Every story links them in Sources & Notes.
- Our examples use composite readers, built from real numbers and always labelled as composites. They are not real people.
- Every calculation is shown, with its assumptions, so you can check it or change it in our calculators.
- We correct mistakes in the open. See Corrections.
- Renters are a permanent audience here, not future buyers.
Who we are
Rooofread is published by a small independent desk in Canada. Stories run under the Rooofread name. Paid placements will be labelled Advertisement or Sponsored, as our Editorial Standards say.
