What the numbers can tell you

Housing figures describe a particular measure, geography and reporting period. An average is not a quote for a specific home. Asking rents describe advertised units and differ from rents paid by existing tenants. Metropolitan areas may include surrounding communities rather than just the named city.

Rental listings may show a starting price for a unit type. Depending on how a dataset is collected, those prices may not represent the full range of available units. Property mix, listing coverage and methodology can also affect averages. Read the linked source and notes before comparing figures.

Our rental card uses Statistics Canada’s experimental estimates. Unavailable figures are not estimated, and caution flags are retained. Market updates are dated snapshots, not a live feed. Data can be revised, and figures from different providers or periods may not be directly comparable.

Rates, examples and tools

Mortgage-rate news does not represent a lender’s offer to you. Any actual offer depends on the lender, product, timing and your circumstances. A central-bank policy rate is not a consumer mortgage rate. Examples and any future calculators depend on their stated assumptions and cannot account for every cost or outcome. Features marked “Coming soon” are not yet available.
